photography
photographers and writers both deal with the world and make something out of it, but if you are a trained photographer and not a writer the way you interpret these things is different. photographers (or film-makers for that matter) probably don't have to deal with the real visual representation of the world that they receive, as they give their photographs other signs, turn them into x y or z. but we must remember photographers DO produce exact images of the world, which can be daunting for writers. writers similarly turn the world into x y and z but they have to try harder in order to make the representation, and try less to make something less real. so when a photographer gets a pen, he or she thinks he can represent the world in the way he does with the camera, which is not the case. similarly when a writer picks up a camera, he or she is daunted by the shocking images. the writer didn't see the wall jutting into the frame on the right; the hedge obscuring the view. but the photographer did. and that is my point.
