"Off we go!", said Robert, with his fingers grasped around the Ordinance Survey map in his hands. "The footpath is this way," he said, pointing to the north-west of his body, motioning at us to move.
We followed him, obedient, believing everything that he said. He had looked at the map. He had organised the route. Of course we believed him! And rightly so. He took us up the footpath as he motioned, up the hill and along the ridge, pointing out landmarks, "there should be a church on our right at some point," he said, without looking at the map. He was right.
Lauren wanted answers to her questions, she wanted to know how he was able to do this, to look at the map once, before we set off, and know all of the things that we were going to see in the future, know the exact route that we were going to take. She kept tugging at my arm, whispering in my ear, "How does he know? That's not normal, is it?" But we believed him, all of us, despite Laurens sceptic questions.
